2023 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley

The 2023 Paper Planes Pinot Noir comes from our longest-tenured vineyard, the Windsor Oaks Property, nestled in the Chalk Hill region of the Russian River Valley. 2023 was a picture-perfect season for us. The wet spring and cool summer allowed our Pinot to hang out on the vine for a full additional month. After picking our Pinot on September 25th, we destemmed and hand sorted the majority of the fruit, leaving about 25% as whole clusters. The stems added a beautiful texture to this delicate and nuanced fruit. 

After pressing, we allowed the pinot to complete ML, and aged the wine in neutral French Oak barrels for nine months, before bottling on June 11th, 2024. The 2023 vintage developed beautiful aromatics of bright red fruits, red tea, with layered structure and our signature lively acidity.

2019 "Hidden Track" Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast

We hand-picked our Pinot Noir grapes from the Gardner Vineyard in Sonoma Valley, just about a mile outside the town of Sonoma. This is a cool tiny little 5-acre vineyard that was recently converted to Organic farming. The grapes were mostly de-stemmed with partial whole cluster co-fermented in six unique lots based on vineyard, block, and fermentation technique. This Pinot Noir is 100% clone, 114 (a rare Dijon clone), which is fruity but with a distinct spice and structure. After a quick two-week fermentation, we pressed off the juice and aged in neutral oak barrels for 8 months prior to bottling.

2017 "Hidden Track" Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley

The Pinot Noir grapes were hand-picked in the Russian River Valley and brought into the winery on August 31st, 2017. The grapes were mostly de-stemmed with partial whole cluster co-fermented in two separate lots based on the vineyard blocks. We chose clones 667 and 459 for their elegance and pretty aromatics. After a quick two week fermentation, we pressed off the juice to five neutral oak barrels and aged it for 9 months before bottling.

2022 Grenache, Russian River Valley

The 2022 Paper Planes Grenache comes from the Windsor Oaks Vineyard in the Russian River Valley AVA. After harvesting on September 6th, we destemmed 50% of the fruit, leaving the whole clusters intact, which added some structure and spice notes to the wine. We managed this tiny lot of less than one ton of fruit with daily gentle punchdowns. We pressed off of the skins using our favorite manual basket press. After aging in neutral French Oak barrels for 10 months, we bottled on August 9th, 2023. Grenache has been one of our favorite varieties to work with since first getting our hands on it in 2017. It always over delivers, with beautiful aromatics and a super smooth experience. These 35 cases are our love letter to Grenache.

2018 "Hidden Track" Grenache, Russian River Valley

Thanks to the mild growing season in 2018, we hand harvested our Grenache grapes on October 16th, a full two weeks later than 2017. Once the grapes were in the winery, we co- fermented about half of the destemmed berries with half whole-cluster fruit, allowing a semi-carbonic maceration to occur within the whole-clusters, adding bright fruit tones to complement the structure in this special wine. We did gentle punch downs about twice a day for medium color extraction.

2017 "Hidden Track" Grenache, Russian River Valley

The Grenache grapes were brought into the winery on a chilly October morning. We fermented 50% of the grapes carbonically. Out of the other half, we de-stemmed 50% and left the other 50% whole cluster before co-fermenting. After fermentation, we pressed off the carbonic lot into two barrels. We pressed off the other lot into one puncheon (roughly the size of two barrels). It aged in neutral oak for 7 months before bottling.
